Fruits should be an integral part of a healthy and balanced diet. However, while fruits are generally beneficial to our health, not all of them are equally valuable, and some may even be detrimental. Which fruits should we consider avoiding?

Fruits are a key component of a healthy and balanced diet. They provide essential nutrients like vitamins, fiber, and minerals necessary for our bodies to function properly. Fruits can be a delicious snack and a versatile ingredient in many dishes. Unfortunately, not all fruits offer the same health benefits.

We should limit processed fruits in our diet, including caramelized fruits and those in syrups. These fruits lose many nutrients during processing and are often dominated by sugar, which can contribute to serious health issues such as diabetes, insulin resistance, and atherosclerosis. Consuming these can also lead to overweight and obesity.

Caramelized fruits and those in syrups should also be avoided due to the preservatives and flavor enhancers they often contain. One of the most common additives is high-fructose corn syrup. Consumed in excess, it can disturb the hormonal balance, including hormones like leptin, which helps regulate the feeling of fullness.

It's not just the fruits themselves that are a threat

It's not just the fruits in syrup that are concerning, but also the containers they come in. Cans are particularly problematic. They often contain bisphenol A (BPA) and aluminum. Research indicates that these compounds can leach into the food and subsequently enter our bodies.

These substances can disrupt the endocrine system and damage the liver. BPA, in particular, promotes the multiplication of free radicals, accelerating the aging process and leading to tissue inflammation, which may contribute to cancer development. Therefore, if we want to consume fruit in syrup, it's preferable to choose those packaged in glass jars.
