Beloved actor and video game voice, James McCaffrey, dies at 65 after cancer battle
The death of the 65-year-old actor was first reported by Kevin Dillon on Instagram. The editors of TMS later confirmed the news, citing a representative of James McCaffrey. McCaffrey lost his battle with cancer.
James McCaffrey was born in 1958 in Belfast, but was raised in the United States. Besides being a well-respected American actor, he was also a film and television producer. Audiences may remember him as Michael Payton from the NBC series "Viper."
He left a lasting impression as a New York firefighter and the ghost of firefighter Tommy Gavin's (Denis Leary) dead cousin in the FX series "Rescue Me." Gamers may know him from the Max Payne game series, where he provided the voice and, in the final installment, the face of the title character.
Besides Max Payne, McCaffrey also lent his voice to several other games, including Alone in the Dark (2008), Alan Wake (2010), and Control (2019).
