Belgium tightens security amid rising sabotage threats
Several military bases in Belgium have been put on high alert. According to "The Brussels Times," this response followed specific threats of sabotage and espionage.
The Belgian Ministry of Defense confirmed that on October 11, additional security measures were implemented at several military bases nationwide due to reports of potential sabotage and surveillance threats.
Elevated threat level
Consequently, the security level was raised from the basic Alfa to Bravo, the second of four possible protection levels, each necessitating the implementation of appropriate precautionary measures.
The elevated threat level involves additional security measures, particularly for the security personnel in individual barracks. However, for safety reasons, specific details of the steps taken have not been disclosed.
Special units in the Baltic Sea
Belgium is not alone in bracing for potential sabotage actions. On Friday, "RBC-Ukraine" reported that due to the threat of sabotage, German GSG 9 units specializing in counter-terrorism will be deployed in the Baltic Sea. These units will be responsible for protecting the infrastructure in the Baltic and North Seas.
