At a recent online auction, a rare 1974 BMW 3.0 CSL was sold. The vehicle attracts attention especially because of its characteristic bodywork reminiscent of the Batman movies.

Out of 1265 models built between 1971-75, this specific specimen is considered one of just 167 produced from July 1973, which were equipped with a 3.2-liter six-cylinder engine and an eye-catching "Batmobile" body kit. Where does this name come from? Because the vehicle was equipped with distinctive fins and a spoiler, which make it resemble the dark knight's car.

This improved, and now legendary version of the 3.0 CS and the grandfather of the modern BMW 3.0 CSL 2023, was initially created for BMW to qualify for the European Touring Car Championships. It has a lighter body thanks to an aluminum hood, trunk lid, and doors. This is accompanied by a fiberglass bumper, air intakes in the fenders, and chrome wheel arch edges. The classic BMW also has a set of Bilstein gas shocks, progressive springs, and disc brakes on all four wheels.

It is important to remember that the 3.2-liter, six-cylinder engine has been rebuilt, but it is highly likely that it still produces the 206 horsepower it was delivering from the factory. The five-speed manual Getrag transmission sends power to the rear wheels. The price for which the "batmobile" was purchased at the Bring a Trailer auction was a whopping 285,000 dollars.
