What this young athlete did can serve as a model for many of us. His priority was to repay his parents, believing that their support played a crucial role in his achievements.
Pavin Smith's parents will never forget these holidays. In 2017, he received his first paycheck ever. It wasn’t small; it was $5 million. This amount was part of his contract after he was recruited by the Arizona Diamondbacks, a team in the National League’s West Division.
Contrary to what one might expect, Pavin had no dilemma about what to do with the money. He used the entire amount to pay off his parents’ mortgage, choosing to do this during Christmas.
The athlete wrote a letter to his parents. "For me to be here, where I am now, you decided to make a lot of sacrifices"
Five million dollars would have been more than enough for the young athlete to buy his own apartment, a fancy car or live a luxurious life. Instead, he chose to perform an extraordinary act of appreciation for his parents. He wrote them a letter informing them he was paying off their mortgage.
Smith added that even paying off the entire mortgage is not enough to show his gratitude to his parents for what they did and sacrificed for him.
Today, seven years later, Pavin Smith still plays baseball, has a beautiful wife, and recently had a baby daughter. In retrospect, it seems he has no regrets. On the contrary, he is happy with where he ended up and still appreciates everything his parents did for him.
