The oven is one of the kitchen appliances that often accumulates strong smells, especially after baking meat, fish, or cheese. Fortunately, there is a way to quickly refresh the oven using simple ingredients: lemon and vanilla extract. This natural trick will help you eliminate unwanted smells, leaving the oven smelling fresh with a subtle hint of vanilla.

Why lemon and vanilla extract?

Lemon has natural refreshing and odor-neutralizing properties, making it perfect for the kitchen. Lemon juice also has antibacterial and antiseptic effects, which help remove bacteria and accumulated impurities. Meanwhile, vanilla extract imparts a pleasant, warm aroma to the oven's interior that spreads throughout the kitchen. The combination of lemon and vanilla is not only effective for eliminating odors but also introduces a cozy atmosphere into the kitchen.

What will you need?

  • 1 lemon,
  • a few drops of vanilla extract,
  • 1 cup of water.

Step by step:

  1. Slice the lemon and place it in an oven-safe dish. Pour water over it, and then add a few drops of vanilla extract.
  2. Set the dish in the oven preheated to 300°F and leave it for about 20–30 minutes.
  3. The lemon-vanilla steam starts working after just a few minutes, neutralizing odors and giving the oven a pleasant aroma.
  4. Once done, leave the oven door slightly open to let the fragrance disperse well.

Additional tips:

  • If you want the smell to last longer, you can place a bowl of baking soda in the oven—the baking soda will absorb any remaining odors and maintain freshness.
  • You can use the lemon and vanilla extract trick regularly, especially after baking dishes with intense aromas.
