The Golden Joystick Awards 2023 was dominated by Baldur's Gate 3, and with The Game Awards 2023 looming, rumors of a new project from Larian Studios have started to circulate.

Driven by an insatiable hunger for more, Larian Studios is gearing up for another bid at greatness. It may be hard to imagine how elevated the new game would need to be. However, as Swen Vincke confirmed, the developers are eager to craft something equally ambitious as their much-acclaimed Baldur's Gate 3.

The prestigious recognition in the form of nominations for The Game Awards 2023 hasn't gone unnoticed by the studio's boss. Swen Vincke articulated his appreciation, acknowledging it as "a genuine honor, especially in a year laden with numerous game releases". He described his creation as a "niche RPG", with the forthcoming project aiming to "cross numerous boundaries".

It's worth reminding ourselves that Baldur’s Gate 3 is a contender in the Game of the Year category at The Game Awards 2023, facing off against the likes of Alan Wake 2, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Resident Evil 4, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. This certainly sets the stage for a highly competitive race.

The brainchild of Larian Studios is also in the running for several other categories:

  • Best Narrative
  • Best Direction
  • Best Community Support
  • Best Music/Sound Design
  • Best Performance
  • Best RPG
  • Best Multiplayer Game

The results of The Game Awards 2023 will be unveiled on December 8. However, Baldur’s Gate 3 has already begun its victory lap at the Golden Joystick Awards 2023, securing wins in six categories.

The release of Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox is nearing, with the specific launch date expected to be announced at The Game Awards 2023. As advised by Larian Studios, "Xbox console fans and enthusiasts of physical media should stay tuned for the official announcement. We're in for a busy week."
