Ayatollah Khamenei proposes cutting off Israel's oil and food supplies

Iran's leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, urges Muslim countries to cease the exportation of oil and food to Israel. He maintains that such a move could potentially halt Israeli hostilities toward the Gaza Strip.

"The bombings on the Gaza Strip must cease immediately...The exportation of oil and food to the Zionist regime must be stopped," Khamenei announced, as quoted in numerous media outlets.

In response to an attack on October 7, Israel vowed to dismantle the Tehran-backed governing body of the Gaza Strip, Hamas. Subsequently, the conflict between Israel and Palestine witnessed a significant upswing. The death toll surpasses nine thousand, with the overwhelming majority of casualties being Gaza Strip residents.

Is an escalation imminent?

If the Israeli assaults on the Palestinians persist, Iran's clerical leaders warn that the strife will escalate.

Iran is accused of assisting in planning a Hamas attack in early October. The conflict has subsequently roped in the Lebanese Hezbollah, supported by Tehran.
