A popular YouTuber from Australia, Norme, decided to break the world record for staying awake. The challenge might sound harmless on the surface, but it is extremely dangerous. Staying awake for just 48 hours can have very negative effects on a person's health, with nausea and severe headaches being the first and mildest symptoms of sleep deprivation. Norme aimed to stay awake for 12 days. During this time, with short breaks, he conducted a live stream on the Internet. He archived the parts that did not go online to maintain proof of the challenge's continuity.

The YouTuber wanted to break the record set in 1963 by Randy Gardner, a teenager who, monitored by doctors, did not sleep for 260 hours. In 1997, it was decided that such challenges could not be recorded because they posed too great a health risk, and future records would not be included in the Guinness World Records.

Norme faced significant difficulties completing the challenge. He fainted and hallucinated, and his brother, Don, would wake him with nudges or by pouring water on him. Viewers were highly concerned and urged him to abandon the challenge. At one point, they thought he was dead. YouTube interrupted the stream for violating community guidelines, so he moved to Kick. There, too, the live stream was banned.

He completed the challenge, staying awake for 12 days. Police entered the apartment

The viewers probably decided to report Norme's challenge to the authorities. At one point, police officers entered his apartment to ensure everything was okay. Surprisingly, they allowed him to continue the dangerous challenge on the condition that he would immediately see a doctor once he finished, successfully or not.

In the end, Norme managed to stay awake for 264 hours and 24 minutes and achieved his goal. However, his feat will not be included in the Guinness World Records. The YouTuber's challenge was dangerous and threatened his life and health. It is also unknown whether the lack of sleep will negatively affect him. We strongly advise against imitating such behavior.
