Attack on hospital in Gaza. Terrifying reports
In one of the largest hospitals in the Gaza Strip, Al-Ahli, there was an explosion that caused massive destruction. As reported by the BBC, one of the surgeons working at the facility, part of the building was consumed by fire, and a section of the roof collapsed. Pieces of glass are scattered everywhere. As a result of this tragic event, Palestinian authorities report, approximately 500 people died.
Another doctor, who chose to remain anonymous, revealed that as many as 4,000 people took shelter in a hospital located in the city center.
Unfortunately, the facility is currently only able to operate at 20 percent, and hundreds of people have died or been injured as a result of the explosion.
Doctors on the attack on a hospital in the Gaza Strip
Ghassan Abu Sittah, a surgeon of Palestinian-British origin, was in Al-Ahli Hospital at the time of the strike. In a conversation with the BBC he said: "Parts of the hospital are on fire. I don't know if it's the emergency department, but certainly the operating room. Part of the roof has collapsed. There's glass everywhere".
The President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, declared a three-day mourning period in response to an explosion in a hospital. He also decided to cancel a planned meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden that was to take place in Jordan. This information was reported by Reuters.
The authorities of the Gaza Strip claim that the hospital was bombed from the air by the Israeli air force. Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) maintain that the building was hit by a missile fired by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, which is an ally of Hamas.
