Former Ukrainian lawmaker Iryna Farion was shot in the head in front of her home in Lviv on Friday. She was taken to the hospital but died from her injuries. She was 60 years old and a leading nationalist, stirring significant controversy. Intense searches for the perpetrator of her murder are currently underway.

An assassination attempt on Iryna Farion, an activist associated with the Svoboda party and a former member of Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada, took place in Lviv. Farion was shot in the head in front of her home. She was quickly transported to the hospital, but despite the prompt reaction from medical services and intensive care, she died from her injuries.

Iryna Farion was a controversial figure. According to the independent Russian portal "Meduza," last November, she stated in a television interview that Russian-speaking members of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are not real Ukrainians.

As reported by the independent portal Meduza, a manhunt for the 60-year-old's killer is ongoing. According to reports, the suspect is around 20 years old and had been seen multiple times near Farion's apartment complex in the last two weeks.

Eyewitnesses told reporters that the killer was wearing gloves when he approached Farion. He shot her in the temple from a relatively close range.

In the past, Farion served as a Ukrainian language lecturer at Lviv Polytechnic. However, she was removed from the university following a scandal triggered by her public criticism directed towards the soldiers of the Azov Regiment. In one of her speeches, she stated: "I cannot call them Ukrainians if they don't speak Ukrainian. Let them call themselves Russians."
