It happened while you were sleeping. Here’s what world agencies reported from Sunday night to Monday morning.
Riots in the United Kingdom
- Anti-immigrant riots continue to rage in the United Kingdom following the killing of three young girls in Southport near Liverpool. In Rotherham, northern England, participants in one of the demonstrations stormed a hotel where illegal immigrants were housed. The gathered crowd attacked police officers guarding the building, throwing chairs and other objects at them. Later, a group broke through the police cordon, entered the hotel, and attempted to set it on fire. Windows in the building were also smashed. At least one police officer was injured.
- Antony Blinken, U.S. Secretary of State, reportedly told G7 foreign ministers that an attack by Iran and Hezbollah on Israel is likely to occur as early as Monday or Tuesday.
- Until recently, four Russian Kilo-class submarines instilled fear in the Black Sea. After the Ukrainians sank one of them, "Rostov-on-Don," it became clear that it was only a matter of time before the remaining units ceased to be a threat. Currently, they cannot leave the Black Sea because Turkey is blocking the Bosporus.
- The German daily "Bild" reports that a Russian IL-76, usually used by Russia to transport weapons, landed in Tehran over the weekend. Additionally, Russian propagandists are spreading the theory that this is related to Moscow's involvement in the planned Iranian attack on Israel.
