Anne Hathaway reveals "disgusting" auditions from her past
She's one of Hollywood's leading stars, boasting an Oscar and the ability to choose her roles selectively. However, before reaching this pinnacle, she endured auditions she described as "disgusting."
In promotion of her new movie, The Idea of You, a 41-year-old gave an interview in which she reminisced about the beginnings of her career. The methods used in choosing actors for the cast were then "normal."
What did young Anne Hathaway experience at the casting, and what was it supposed to serve?
Test for "chemistry"
In a conversation with V Magazine, Anna Hathaway described what auditions were like two decades ago. At that time, actors had to kiss during the auditions to check for chemistry between them. Hathaway said she went through that, too. She believes it's the worst way to check for chemistry, but it was the norm back then.
"I was told, ‘We have ten guys coming today and you’re cast. Aren’t you excited to make out with all of them?’ And I thought, ‘Is there something wrong with me?’ because I wasn’t excited. I thought it sounded gross," the actress confessed.
