Anna Kendrick had already announced that she does not intend to become a mother. The actress decided to speak about this openly, breaking societal taboos. She first mentioned that "motherhood isn't for her" in her book "Scrappy Little Nobody." Now, in her latest interview, she has shared more.
Anna Kendrick calls herself a "child-free cat lady"
In a conversation with Flow Space, Kendrick pointed out a popular statement circulated among men: "Yeah, maybe one day - a couple of kids running around," She admitted, "I don't think I've ever heard a woman say that!"
Kendrick explains that there is a certain image behind this statement, which she finds problematic. She described a certain picture: "You come home at the end of your workday, and you put down your proverbial briefcase, and you're making yourself a cocktail, and a woman in a Laura Ashley dress is out in the yard, and there's a couple of kids - in white! - running around. Um, 'Where are you in that, sir?"
The actress also raised the issue of co-parenting and the phrase that irritates her, often heard, that men: "help out with the kids." Kendrick notes that husbands often say these words, even though both parents work professionally.
Despite her clear stance, Kendrick admits that she sometimes feels excluded from conversations about parenting among her friends who have children. "I always want to kind of say something, and then I'm just like, 'Well, I'm the childless cat lady. I'm not gonna say s(...)," she admits.
"Child-free cat ladies" is an expression used by J.D. Vance, who ran for the office of Vice President of the USA. He spoke about Kamala Harris, who never became a mother. In a conversation with Fox News, he harshly stated that women who haven't given birth to children are "child-free cat ladies who are unhappy in their miserable lives" and that they contribute nothing to America. Among those who responded to his words was Jennifer Aniston, who publicly spoke about her struggle to conceive.
"All I can say is… Mr Vance, I pray that your daughter is fortunate enough to bear children of her own one day. I hope she will not need to turn to IVF as a second option. Because you are trying to take that away from her, too," the actress added.
