Angler caught a fish with "human teeth". It kept something in its mouth
Marylands angler recently had exceptional luck. He managed to catch a sheephead bream, a fish with a very unique appearance - it can boast teeth that look like human ones. Because of them, it is hard to catch - it bites through anything with ease.
Brian Summerlin, a 38-year-old fisherman, was incredibly lucky. During a fishing trip in the American state of Maryland, he managed to catch a unique specimen. Not only did the fish have "human" teeth, but it turned out to be a record large individual.
The fisherman admitted that he immediately felt something enormous had grabbed his bait. The sheephead is notorious for stealing it—effortlessly biting off the line. That's why it's so hard to catch.
The fisherman caught an unusual specimen
Summerlin admits that pulling out the extraordinary specimen was not easy at all. - This is indeed a fighter fish - he laughs.
When he saw the gigantic fish, he already knew he had broken the record. The specimen he caught weighed more than 16,5 lbs. The previous record in the state of Maryland was 13,9 lbs. Let's add that typically these fish weigh between 2,8 and 4 lbs.
Interestingly, it turned out that the fish had a hook in its mouth, which Brain recognized as his own, and which had gone missing an hour earlier when a gigantic specimen bit through the line.
Next, the fish was weighed on a certified scale at Kool Ice and Seafood Company in Cambridge, Maryland, and the record was officially acknowledged.
"- I'm very excited about this – said Brian. - I always knew that there was a possibility of breaking the record. My family was also happy because it's our favorite fish.
He added that his daughter was particularly enchanted. - When she saw the fish, she immediately said she wanted to keep the teeth to leave them under her pillow for the tooth fairy, because they look exactly like human ones - the fisherman laughs.
The Sheephead Sargus lives along the eastern coast of North and South America. It is characterized by its unusual teeth, which strikingly resemble human ones. An adult individual averages about 40 cm.
- These are amazing fish that are perfectly adapted to consuming the food they can find underwater - Brian explains. - Their front teeth allow them to bite into the most diverse underwater structures. They also have teeth that resemble our molars, which allow them to bite things like crustaceans.
