Angela Rye points finger at Chris Cuomo: Offensive comment led to CNN contract termination
Angela Rye has since launched her own podcast, "Native Land Pod". In an episode, she opened up about this event, describing it as among the most embarrassing and humiliating experiences she has faced.

She shared that when she posted a photo of herself in a glittering bikini to celebrate New Year's 2021 on Instagram, Chris Cuomo sent her a comment of questionable propriety concerning the photo, remarking, "Happy New Year, you're shining in the crotch".
Rye chose to ignore the message, which seemingly made Cuomo aware he had overstepped, prompting him to offer alternative career opportunities to her. However, when Rye eventually confronted him about his crass New Year's commentary, CNN ended her contract.
Rye thinks that her contract was terminated by Cuomo because she didn't respond to his message, which he deemed as rejection. In 2023, Cuomo contacted her again, this time from a different number, asking if she was upset with him.
Less than a year after Rye's departure, Cuomo exited CNN. His own contract was terminated in December 2021, following accusations that he had assisted his brother, Andrew Cuomo, former governor of New York, in handling allegations of sexual misconduct.
