Amy Adams, known for films such as "The Woman in the Window," "Doubt," and "American Hustle," revealed that at the start of her Hollywood journey, she struggled with low self-esteem and doubts.
"I was just very naive, and I think I was really afraid to show any truth or darkness about the flip side of the human experience. I would have felt so vulnerable and so exposed," the actress admitted in the interview with "Variety."
She started her career as a dancer at the age of 20 and made her big screen debut in 1999 in the film "Drop Dead Gorgeous" alongside Denise Richards. Her breakthrough came with her role as a pregnant woman in "Junebug" (2005), for which she received her first Oscar nomination.
In the following years, she starred in many high-profile productions, such as "Enchanted," "Doubt," "The Fighter," and "The Master". From 2013 to 2017, she portrayed Lois Lane in films from the DC Universe. She won the Golden Globe twice for her roles in "American Hustle" (2013) and "Big Eyes" (2014).
Adams also shared that motherhood significantly impacted her professional life. "Every moment had to be devoted to taking care of my child. Motherhood shifted my priorities, and I think it changed some relationships. It was difficult, but I don't think it's anything extraordinary," said the actress, the mother of 14-year-old Aviana.
Currently, she is eager to collaborate with the younger generation of actors. She particularly values her relationship with Jenna Ortega, with whom she will appear in the "Klara and the Sun" adaptation directed by Taika Waititi.
"I learn so much from the young women that I work with. I feel like I learn more from them than they could ever learn from me. I do forget that I’m not their age sometimes. I’m like, ‘Amy, you’re 50. You’re not gonna hang!'" she joked.
Despite the passing years, she recognizes the benefits of maturity in the acting profession. "It gets so much better. But there are things I miss: my joints working, collagen, things like that," she admitted with a smile.
Adams' latest film is the dark comedy Nightbitch. In it, she plays a stay-at-home mom who starts to suspect one day that she might be... a dog.
