The immense popularity of the British series "The Crown", whose sixth season will appear in mid-November on Netflix, has caused Americans to desire their own production similarly. It's surprising that it's only now happening.

The first reports about a new Netflix production, which Variety has received, indicate that there is a kind of American response to "The Crown" in the making. The miniseries is to tell the story of the President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, based on the book "JFK: Coming Of Age In The American Century, 1917-1956" by Fredrik Logevall, which has been critically acclaimed.

Released in 2020, it represents only the first part of a planned duology dedicated to the biography of a leader who tragically died as a result of an assassination. The work focuses on his life from birth to the moment of becoming a senator.

What do we know about the series about Kennedy?

As reported by Variety, Netflix - although it has not yet confirmed rumors about its creation - sees the production as an American version of "The Crown," which follows the fate of the royal family across several seasons. It seems that the story of the Kennedy family also has the potential for such an extended series narrative.

The exact plot description remains a mystery, and we also do not know any names that could appear in the cast. However, it is already known that Eric Roth, Oscar winner for "Forrest Gump", an absolute classic in the history of cinema, and the author of the script for the latest Martin Scorsese western, "Time of the Bloody Moon", will be responsible for the script. Its premiere will take place on October 20.

Roth, along with Peter Chernin ("Planet of the Apes") and Jenno Topping ("Hidden Figures"), will also be the executive producer of the miniseries. The search for a showrunner is currently underway.

JFK at the cinema

This would not be the first production dedicated to Kennedy. He is likely one of the most frequently invoked politicians in cinema. Starting with the famous "JFK" from 1991 by Oliver Stone, where Steve Reed played him, through "Thirteen Reasons" by Roger Donaldson, where he was portrayed by Bruce Greenwood, and "Blonde" by Andrew Dominik with Caspar Phillipson, ending with "The Crown", where in the second season he was played by Michael C. Hall ("Dexter"). The aforementioned Phillipson was also the president in the acclaimed "Jackie" by Pablo Larraín.

It's worth mentioning that in 2011, an 8-episode Canadian-American series "The Kennedys" was created, which was awarded an Emmy. It presents the events from the life of the titular clan, including key victories and defeats.
