American sprinter Fred Kerley tasered, arrested in Miami
Fred Kerley, an American sprinter and Olympic medalist, was detained by police in Miami Beach after allegedly resisting arrest. Officers used a taser because the athlete did not comply with their orders. He faces charges of assaulting officers, resisting arrest, and disturbing the peace.
According to information provided by WSVN station, Kerley approached the officers performing their duties, concerned about his car parked nearby. His behavior reportedly became increasingly aggressive, prompting the officers to call for backup. Despite orders to leave, Kerley refused to comply, leading to using the taser.
Despite attempts to de-escalate the situation, Kerley assumed a fighting stance and ignored lawful commands, leading to his resistance during the arrest, the police stated in release.
Emergency backup was called, and a dart-firing stun gun was deployed to subdue Kerley, who was subsequently taken into custody without further incident, the officers added.
