American beasts in Ukraine: M2 Bradley proving its might
Ukrainians from the 47th Mechanized Brigade were interviewed about the M2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicle. They affirmed the machine's reputation, noting its durability and advanced equipment. The American "beasts" have become invaluable to the Ukrainian army.
Currently stationed in the Sumy region, the 47th Mechanized Brigade has previously participated in battles on other fronts. This brigade is recognized as highly trained and well-equipped, including American equipment like M1A1 Abrams tanks and, of course, the M2 Bradley.
M2 Bradley in Ukraine
The Ukrainian army has received more than 300 M2 Bradleys. According to data from the creators of the Oryx blog, which documents equipment losses on both sides of the ongoing war, the Russians have eliminated (destroyed, damaged, or captured) just over 100 of these vehicles. This is partly because Ukrainians use American IFVs on challenging front lines, including past locations like Avdiivka and currently in the Kursk region, Russia.
The 47th Mechanized Brigade members emphasize that the M2 Bradley offers exceptional durability, with the crew feeling secure inside. They also note its spacious interior, designed to accommodate eight infantry soldiers, although more can be transported in special situations, such as evacuation missions.
An additional significant advantage of the M2 Bradley is its strong firepower. American designers have equipped it with a 25mm M242 Bushmaster automatic cannon (with a firing rate of up to 200 rounds per minute), a 7.62mm machine gun, and an anti-tank missile launcher. Thanks to these features, the Ukrainians and the M2 Bradley can compete with IFVs and Russian tanks.
One Ukrainian soldier noted, "The M2 Bradley performs very well. We take infantry to positions, evacuate many people, and save many lives."
One of the most durable infantry fighting vehicles in the world
The M2 Bradley is equipped with armor made from steel, aluminum, and composite materials. It also features an anti-spall lining and a built-in fire suppression system. Additionally, it can be enhanced with BRAT (Bradley Reactive Armor Tiles) packages that further increase protection against threats like RPG-7 grenade launchers. Considering the realities of the war with Russia, M2 Bradleys used in Ukraine are often modified with "grilles," or meshes designed to protect against FPV drones.
According to the manufacturer's specifications, the M2 Bradley can reach speeds up to about 37 mph, and Ukrainian soldiers from the 47th Mechanized Brigade confirm this. Given the vehicle's robust armor and substantial equipment, they regard this speed as impressive.
