Powerful Boeing C-17 Globemaster III airplanes began to fly to Israel. The first units have already landed at the airport in Tel Aviv and brought American military aid. Here's what has already been delivered.

A picture of the unloading of a Boeing C-17 Globemaster III transport aircraft at the airport in Tel Aviv has appeared online. This contained MDT David armored vehicles, which will replenish current losses.

It's worth noting that Israel lost some of these vehicles during a Hamas fighters' raid on October 7, 2023, when they temporarily took over the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) base in Nahal Oz.

An American armored car for Israel on a Toyota or Land Rover chassis

Armored cars MDT David, which have been in use by the IDF since 2006, were on board the Boeing C-17 Globemaster III airplane. The cars were purchased from the American company MDT Armor Corporation due to a combination of good protection and low operating costs.

The company's idea is based on using the chassis of a civilian car, which in this case depending on the production series was either a Land Rover Defender or a Toyota Land Cruiser. Then a special armored and sealed cabin was mounted on the chassis, providing space for four, six, or eight soldiers, depending on the preferences of the customer.

Such a design allows for the creation of a military vehicle for patrol purposes, which can essentially be repaired by any civilian workshop, significantly reducing operating costs.

The armored cabin is characterized by a class II according to STANAG 4569 standard, which means it provides protection against standard bullets from 5.56x45 mm NATO, 0.31x1.53 inches or 0.30x1.54 inches NATO ammunition. Additionally, the armor is capable of withstanding armor-piercing bullets API BZ caliber 0.30x1.53 inches.

Furthermore, it is sealed, providing protection against NBC weapons (nuclear, biological, and chemical), and at the back, we have a third door facilitating the deployment of soldiers from the vehicle. Optionally, an optional hatch in the roof can also be used for evacuation in the case of an armed version.
