Alpine A110's final goodbye: Ultime R edition basks in glory
Oh, what a car it was! Seven years after the resurrection of the Alpine brand, the A110 model is leaving the market. However, the French wouldn't be themselves if they didn't prepare something special for this occasion.
This year's Paris show will be the venue for the premiere and farewell to the Alpine A110, one of the best-driving sports cars of recent years. The manufacturer unveiled the final special edition, Ultime R, which is probably the best incarnation of this model.
It stands out not only with top-tier power but also with maximized aerodynamics. The 1.8-liter turbocharged gasoline engine delivers 350 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of maximum torque. However, you need to refuel with 102-octane fuel to take full advantage of its performance. It's worth it, as acceleration to sixty will only take 3.8 seconds.
The power is transferred to the rear wheels by a 6-speed automatic EDC transmission with more aggressive software, fitting the sharp character of this version.
Together with the more powerful drivetrain comes a redesigned suspension based on components from Öhlins. Meanwhile, the brakes with 13-inch discs were supplied by AP Racing.
We also must mention the improved aerodynamics. A sizable rear wing and additional splitters result in downforce that is 353 lbs more than in the R Turini version. The difference is particularly noticeable on the track. Alpine claims it tested this version on the most famous venues, with assistance from Esteban Ocon in finding the final adjustments.
Uncompromised performance does not mean sacrificing comfort. Onboard the Ultime R version, we find air conditioning, multimedia, and support systems. The final variant will have only 110 units produced, and each one, according to "Motor1.com," is expected to cost $279,000. Well, you pay for uniqueness.
