Parishioners from Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Parish in Lake Ozark, Alabama, were seeking spiritual support, instead, they were met with sexual proposals from Father Ignazio Medina. In response, they decided to report this uncommon experience to the appropriate authorities in the USA.

Reports state that parishioners of Our Lady of the Lake were taken aback by the priest's proposals during confession. Father Medina allegedly solicited sexual acts from them. The case came to light after one of the women decided to call a helpline set up to report instances of violence and sexual exploitation within the Church in the States.

Following an investigation, Father Medina was found guilty by a church tribunal of soliciting sexual acts during confession. Despite the conviction, according to information published by the New York Post, he still serves as a priest. However, his duties are somewhat restricted. He is forbidden from administering the sacrament of confession or holding public holy services, yet he is still allowed to perform funeral services, among other duties.

Bishop addresses parishioners' allegations against the priest

In light of the allegations made against Father Medina, Bishop Shawn McKnight issued an official statement expressing his stance on the matter.

"I want to emphatically state that sexual harassment during confession is sacrilegious, is considered a crime in our Church, and constitutes a severe form of abuse. This cannot be tolerated," states Bishop McKnight.
