Alabama inmate requests execution: "I deserve death"
On April 24, in the state of Alabama, an execution will be carried out on James Osgood. "A couple of years ago I really screwed up. I’m guilty and I deserve death. That’s what I want," the man said. In 2010, the 55-year-old sexually assaulted a woman and then killed her.
2014 the appeals court overturned the conviction, arguing that the jury had incorrect information. However, in the retrial, Osgood was again sentenced to death. This time, the 55-year-old waived appeals and requested the execution himself.
"A couple of years ago I really screwed up. I’m guilty and I deserve death. That’s what I want," he declared. He added that he is "suffering in prison."
Killer sentenced to death. The sentence will be carried out
Alabama's Governor Kay Ivey, despite previously pardoning another inmate, had no doubts about Osgood's guilt.
His girlfriend, a co-defendant, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life imprisonment.
