This year's winner for 2023 is Patrick Dempsey, an actor best known for his role in the popular medical TV series "Grey's Anatomy", which has been running since 2005. He has also garnered attention for his roles in romantic comedies such as "Bridget Jones 3" and "Made of Honor". Currently, we're eagerly anticipating the grand premiere of Michael Mann's "Ferrari", in which he features prominently.
The sexiest still sizzles at 57
Interestingly, Patrick Dempsey is the second oldest to receive this prestigious title. At 57 years old, he was only surpassed by Sean Connery who was crowned sexiest in 1989, at the age of 59.
This is quite surprising, considering that last year's title was awarded to a considerably younger Chris Evans, who was 41 at the time. This proves once again that men, like a fine wine, can age wonderfully. Dempsey and Connery are joined by other winners over the age of 50, which includes Nick Nolte in 1992 (51), Harrison Ford in 1998 (56), Richard Gere in 1999 (50), and Paul Rudd two years ago (52).
The competition for Dr. McDreamy
Also known as the "McDreamy" doctor, Dempsey outperformed six strong competitors in the poll. These included American football player Jason Kelce, singers Lenny Kravitz and Usher, and actors Jamie Foxx, Timothée Chalamet, and internet sensation, Pedro Pascal.
The big reveal happened during the evening talk show "Jimmy Kimmel Live!". The audience participated in a playfully interactive "Guess Who" segment, leading to the grand reveal of the sexiest man for the year 2023, which was met with enthusiastic applause.
Welcome to the winners' circle, Dempsey
With this accolade, Patrick Dempsey is now part of the esteemed winners' circle in this nearly 40-year-old poll. Mel Gibson was the inaugural winner in 1985. Other recent winners include Michael B. Jordan, John Legend, Idris Elba, Blake Shelton, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and David Beckham.
"I'm glad this is happening at this stage of my life," shared Dempsey in an interview with "People". The news of his victory did shock him initially. He added, "I was completely shocked, and then I started laughing... I have always been the runner-up!"
Patrick Dempsey's upcoming movie "Ferrari" is set to premiere on December 29, 2023.
