Afghan killer's deportation delay leads to deadly park attack
An Afghan national who killed two people, including a child, in Aschaffenburg was supposed to be deported, Bavarian authorities reported.
Twenty-eight-year-old Enamullah O. from Afghanistan, who arrived in Germany in November 2022, attacked a preschool group with a knife in a park in Aschaffenburg, resulting in two deaths. He was obligated to leave the country by December 2024, but this did not happen.
Perpetrator's mental health issues
The Afghan national had been reported three times for offenses, including drug-related crimes, violence, property damage, and assault on officers. His records also include an entry stating that he exposed himself publicly. It is still unclear whether he was convicted on any of these charges, according to the weekly "Spiegel."
The newspaper "Bild" contacted a witness to the violence committed by the man, which occurred in August 2024. A 23-year-old Ukrainian reported that Enamullah was abusive to a woman, a matter he brought to the police's attention.
Furthermore, Bavarian authorities reported that he had been obligated to leave the country since December 2024. At the end of last year, he informed immigration authorities of his willingness to return to Afghanistan voluntarily. Since his asylum proceedings were terminated on December 11, the man was ordered to leave Germany, but this ultimately did not happen, stated Joachim Herrmann, head of the Bavarian Ministry of Interior.
Bavarian authorities stated that the perpetrator had mental health issues and had been treated multiple times in psychiatric institutions following previous acts of violence. He was then released back into the community. Medications were found in his room, but there was no evidence of Islamist beliefs. He had been reported three times for drug-related offenses, violence, property damage, and assault on officers.

Willingly wanted to leave germany
In December 2024, the man informed immigration authorities in writing that he would voluntarily leave the country. According to Herrmann, the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) then asked the Afghan national to obtain the necessary documents from the Afghan Consulate General. However, he has not yet left the country.
The attack resulted in the deaths of two people: a 41-year-old man and a two-year-old boy from Morocco. The injured included a two-year-old girl from Syria, a 72-year-old German, and a 59-year-old preschool teacher. The police quickly arrested the perpetrator thanks to regular patrols in the park. The motive for the attack is not yet known, but investigators suspect a link to the perpetrator's mental illness.
