During Wednesday's gala of the New York Film Critics Circle Awards at Tao Downtown in Manhattan, Adrien Brody was honored for his portrayal of László Tóth in Brady Corbet's film "The Brutalist." In his speech, the actor expressed deep sympathy for those affected by the tragedy of the fires in Los Angeles.

"My heart is with all the families, animals, and colleagues. Most of the homes on the western and coastal sides are gone. From Palisades inward, this is our community. I want to thank and acknowledge the courage of the first responders, their dedication, and meaningful work, which deserves our recognition this evening," he said from the stage, unable to hide his tears.

Not only did Brody address the disaster, but the gala host, David Sims, and Sean Baker, who was awarded Best Screenplay for the film Anora, also expressed their support for the residents of Los Angeles. Upon receiving the award for Best Film, the director of The Brutalist, Brady Corbet, shared words of comfort, reminding the audience that his home in New York had burned down a few years before he filmed Vox Lux in 2018.

Brody also did not forget to thank his colleague from the set, Guy Pearce. "I loved working with you every day and assume that many of you have seen the film, but for those who haven't, Guy created such a complex and subtle portrayal of Van Buren. I don't think I would be standing here today if it weren't for his wonderful role," he confessed.

The fires, which ignited on January 7th due to strong winds, devastated areas around Los Angeles, particularly Pacific Palisades and Eaton Canyon. On Wednesday, just before 6:00 PM Eastern Time, another fire broke out in the Hollywood Hills, forcing the closure of iconic places such as the TCL Chinese Theatre and the Magic Castle. Among those who lost their homes were Adam Brody, Leighton Meester, and Anna Faris.
