They have a delicate taste and creamy consistency. They can be a great addition to both sweet and savory dishes. They positively affect the functioning of the heart and, thanks to the fact that they curb hunger, they will be useful for people who plan to lose excess pounds. You can easily add them to the menu by making precious milk out of them. This is why cashew nuts should be included in a balanced diet.

The cashew tree is a tropical evergreen tree discovered in Brazil in 1558. It now grows all over the world. The nuts obtained from it are a treasure trove of health benefits. They are particularly popular among vegans, as a serving of cashew nuts provides almost as much protein as the same-sized serving of meat. What else is there to know about them?

Why is it worth eating cashew nuts?

Cashew nuts are full of health-promoting properties. They contain plant protein, healthy fats, fiber, vitamins (such as vitamin C, vitamin K and B vitamins) and minerals, including magnesium, copper, and phosphorus. They are a source of unsaturated fatty acids, including oleic acid. These healthy fats help lower LDL (bad cholesterol) levels and support heart health.

What else will we find in cashews? Antioxidants, including carotenoids and polyphenols, which help fight free radicals and prevent cell damage. In addition, thanks to the presence of protein and fiber, cashews provide energy and satisfy hunger for a long time. However, remember about moderation - cashews are high in calories. Dietitians suggest eating no more than one handful (about 1 ounce) of cashews a day. One such portion satisfies:

  • 73 percent of the daily requirement for copper, which aids in the formation of blood cells, supports brain function, and protects the immune system,
  • 25 percent of the daily requirement for phosphorus, which helps in maintaining healthy bones and teeth,
  • 22 percent of the daily requirement for manganese, which helps the body carry out chemical reactions, such as converting food into energy,
  • 21 percent of the daily requirement for magnesium, which helps the thyroid to release the proper hormones.

Cashew nut milk. Recipe

People who want to smuggle cashew nuts into their diet can prepare plant milk from them. This will also work on a vegan, lactose-free diet, for diabetics or those limiting dairy in their diet. Just need about 7 ounces of cashew nuts, pour it over with approx. 3 cups of water and let it rest overnight. After this time, the nuts should be drained, re-poured with water - one cup and blended well. It is a good idea to strain the prepared milk through cheesecloth, a dressing scarf or a sieve. Then just pour the rest into the bottle. Cashew nut milk can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 7 days,
