In recent days, the actress has been giving exceptionally honest interviews in which she lets down her guard and talks about her private life. Meanwhile, in her most recent conversation with "People," Jada talked about a dark episode in her youth - about how she used to be a drug dealer.
Jada Pinkett Smith admitted that her life would make quite a good screenplay for a movie. The actress in an interview with "People" talked about how many years ago she led a double life - as a promising artist and a drug dealer. - When you have parents for whom you are not a priority, you don't know how to put yourself first. My parents were addicted to drugs - she said.
The star admitted that she needed occupation which would make her independent, with her own money. So, she decided to sell drugs. - As I was growing up, dealers were the richest people. We viewed that as a great success. And I had a mother, who wasn't doing well. She was a highly functional drug addict. We didn't have many things. Our house was neglected - she recalled.
Pinkett Smith grew up in Baltimore, which was engulfed in a drug addiction epidemic. - Drugs had to have somehow appeared in your life, period. You could either take them or sell them, but there was no option for them not to be in your environment at all. I'm not saying that's a good thing. But when you live in a war zone, you just think about survival. I didn't want to try taking drugs. I certainly didn't want to be the girlfriend of a dealer. But I wanted money to be independent. I wanted to take care of myself - describes the star.
The actress confessed that there were instances when she had to chase someone with a knife because they hadn't paid her $700 for drugs, as well as instances when dangerous customers had put a gun to her head. - That was my way to survive. But it put me in danger many times and many people got hurt - she says.
She also added that working on the street taught her to be fearless and detect various dangers, which was supposed to help her in her career in Hollywood, which she started about a decade later.
