The Chinese company Mingyang Smart Energy plans to undertake one of the most ambitious energy projects. They aim to create a gigantic, 22-megawatt wind turbine, which is likely to exceed even the height of the Eiffel Tower with its stature.
At the beginning of 2023, we reported that Mingyang company was building an 18-megawatt wind turbine with a span of blades at 918 feet. And while that is a record breaker, the representatives of the Chinese company have no intention of resting on their laurels. They now have plans for something even bigger.
A wind turbine as tall as the Eiffel Tower
The Chinese company Mingayng intends to build an offshore wind turbine with a capacity of 22 megawatts. Such a structure has not yet been built by mankind. This is a colossus, in which the diameter of the turbine rotor will exceed 1017 feet.
It's just a little less than the height of the Eiffel Tower, plus there are other elements of the building yet to be accounted for. Moreover, the building will rotate, creating a wind collection area equivalent to 60 Olympic swimming pools.
This turbine will not only become the largest wind turbine in history, but also one of the largest moving devices ever created. It's hard to even imagine the emotions that will accompany traveling in close proximity to this gigantic object.
The only remaining question is about cost-effectiveness. Even though a large wind turbine is often able to generate more energy than several small ones, the costs of installation and transportation are significantly higher. Well, time will tell. The project is dated to the year 2025.
