Her daughter-in-law read the bill to this elderly woman, resulting in significant shock and stress. The entire amount was automatically deducted from the 88-year-old's bank account. Despite the best efforts of doctors, they couldn't save her.
Following Caterina Giovinazzo's death, her family is demanding an explanation from the company, which admitted having made a mistake. It turned out that the original bill was inflated 280 times, as the actual payment due was merely 55 euros.
Thus far, the grieving family has not initiated any legal action. However, the story of the 88-year-old Italian woman has shocked the public. Politicians have vowed to raise the case in parliament, maintaining that this incident can't be dismissed as a simple mistake.
"A mistake in the bill can induce considerable fear and anxiety," remarked Senator Raffaella Paita.
This story of vulnerability should serve as a lesson to pay more attention to companies that provide numerous services and that they are obliged to maintain control over their operations, she added.
