A startling admission from Vladimir Solovyov's daughter. Could Putin send her to jail?
Ekaterina Solovyova, daughter of Vladimir Solovyov - a leading propagandist of the Russian regime - publicly ridiculed Kremlin's politics shortly after the Moscow Supreme Court's controversial ruling on the LGBT issue. The disparity between her views and that of her father is quite pronounced.
Vladimir Solovyov runs his own journalistic talk show on Rossija 1 channel, where he avidly supports and promotes Vladimir Putin's ideas, even the unscrupulous ones. Solovyov's personal life is enigmatic. Currently imprisoned oppositionist Alexei Navalny identified eight of Solovyov's children from various relationships.
The propagandist's daughter from his second marriage, Ekaterina, was born in the United States but resides in Moscow. An artist and founder of her own rock band, she also choreographs theatrical performances. In addition, "The Insider" reported that Solovyova is a social activist advocating against women's violence and for their rights. Her sharp political views, which strongly contradict her father's beliefs, led her to condemn Russia's aggression in Ukraine and to emerge as an ardent critic of Putin.
She addressed her supporters on social media, asserting, "I want you to know that Russia is not Putin. And don't let hatred prevail."
Recently, she criticized the discrimination against sexual minorities, citing the Supreme Court's latest ruling that declared the "LGBT movement" an "extremist organization". The entire verdict is remarkably cryptic and hence, perilous for human rights.
"I love the theater of the absurd, but this is turning into a bad joke. We regard innocuous, non-existent organizations as 'extremists' while extending a warm reception to Hamas at the Kremlin. Even Orwell would be nauseous. It's getting dark, friends, let's keep the light," commented Ekaterina Solovyova, as quoted by Russian media analyst Julia Davis.
Despite their vastly different views, neither Ekaterina Solovyova nor Vladimir Solovyov have addressed their relationship. When "The Insider" questioned whether she fears arrest and how her father might react, Solovyova remained reticent. For now, Putin seems to tolerate the public dissent of his favored propagandist's daughter.
