According to Italian media, a small island, Santa Maria, located near the shores of Sicily and opposite the city of Marsala, has been put up for sale. This is the second attempt to sell the island. Five years ago, the owners wanted 5 million euros more for it.

For several years, the most exciting offer in many Italian towns, especially deserted ones, has been the sale of houses for 1 euro. Such opportunities are offered, among others, in cities in Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea and one of the most visited islands in Europe.

The interest in these proposals is primarily expressed by foreigners who, buying such a house for a symbolic coin, commit to renovating it at their own expense.

Now, the real estate market has a new offer: a picturesque 27-acre island located 550 yards from the shores of Sicily. The island includes an olive grove, a 1,150-foot villa, and a smaller residential building.

Isola Santa Maria is located near Marsala, a small town favored by those looking for an ideal base with a good location. You can easily reach the nearby Lo Zingaro reserve, Castellammare del Golfo, Mazara del Vallo, Selinunte, and Trapani.

Santa Maria island has been put up for sale for 12 million euros. This is already the second attempt to sell the island. Five years ago, the owners wanted 17 million euros for it. Thus, the price has been reduced substantially.

Local media remind us that when the offer to sell the Santa Maria island appeared for the first time, environmental defenders expressed concerns that a tourist resort might be built there, which would disrupt the local landscape in this picturesque spot in the largest Sicilian lagoon, Stagnone.

The Greens then appealed to the Ministry of Culture to protect it.
