95‑year-old "Nazi grandma" faces new charges for Holocaust denial
Ursula Haverbeck from Germany has a lot on her conscience, and despite her advanced age, the justice system has no mercy for her. The infamous "Nazi grandma" will face charges for incitement to hatred.
Activism in old age can take extremely different forms. An antiheroine, a far-right activist named Ursula Haverbeck, has gained notoriety as the "Nazi grandma."
Ursula Haverbeck is a hardened reoffender. She gained "popularity" by spreading disinformation and denying historical facts. Among other things, she claimed that the Auschwitz camp was only a labor camp, denied the Holocaust happened, and persistently refused to acknowledge that Germans committed the mass extermination of Jews. Because of her "appearances," she has had legal troubles since 2004.
The Nazi grandma in action
The legal history of Ursula Haverbeck is quite extensive. She has received multiple convictions for numerous morally questionable viewpoints, but until recently, she managed to avoid more significant penalties. It wasn't until August 2018 that a court dismissed her appeal against a conviction in Verden. By then, the Nazi grandma already had several fines to pay and faced 30 months of imprisonment. Each sentence was imposed on her for similar crimes.
The 95-year-old Nazi strikes again
The 95-year-old grandma was sentenced again in 2022, this time to 12 months of imprisonment. The sentence was handed down in a case involving the denial of the mass murder of Jews during the Holocaust. Ursula Haverbeck has not yet started serving this sentence, and more legal troubles may be on the horizon. The Nazi grandma shows no remorse whatsoever.
She is being prosecuted for her statements made in a television interview on the program "NDR Panorama." The 95-year-old proudly denied the mass extermination of Jews that took place in the Auschwitz concentration camp. Her trial will continue on June 12 and 26.
