The earthquake occurred north of Honduras, with its hypocenter located at a depth of 6 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The United States' warning system has issued tsunami alerts for parts of the Caribbean Sea, including northern Honduras, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. There is no expectation of a tsunami threat to the U.S. Atlantic Coast or the Gulf of Mexico coast.

Earthquakes of this magnitude can cause significant damage, especially in coastal regions, making tsunami warnings crucial for the safety of residents in the affected areas.
