$6 billion arms package to Ukraine, U.S. bolsters support with Patriots
On Friday, Pentagon Chief Lloyd Austin announced that the United States will purchase Patriot missiles, among other types of weapons and military equipment, for Ukraine, valued at $6 billion. This marks the largest package of arms the USA has provided to Kyiv.
During a press conference following the meeting of the Contact Group for the Defense of Ukraine, Austin explained that the package includes missiles for Ukrainian Patriot and NASAMS air defense systems, counter-drone systems, and significant quantities of artillery ammunition and air-to-ground missiles.
This package was approved under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative program, which involves purchasing weapons for Ukraine from American manufacturers. Consequently, deliveries might take several months.
