The 2024 Oscars have taken place, and as with every year, they were not without their mishaps and surprises. Upon accepting the award for Best Leading Actress, Emma Stone revealed her dress had ripped, a situation she managed with a graceful smile. Meanwhile, John Cena made a bold appearance on stage, wearing nothing at all, capturing the audience's attention.

Oscars 2024 "In Memoriam" Section

The 96th Oscar ceremony included the poignant "In Memoriam" segment, dedicated to remembering personalities we've lost in the past year. This year's section opened with a tribute to Alexei Navalny.

The Russian Department of Prisons confirmed the demise of the Russian opposition leader on February 16. Navalny, known for his years of anti-Putin activism and for exposing corruption, has been a prominent figure in the Russian opposition since 2013.

"They are gone, but they will certainly not be forgotten"

"In Memoriam" also honored Julian Sands, the British actor who tragically died in January 2023. Sands had embarked on a journey to conquer Mount Baldy, the highest peak in the USA, where, months later, human remains were found near the site of his disappearance. The announcement of his death followed a month later.
Over the past year, we have also said goodbye to Matthew Perry, Alan Arkin, Norman Reynolds, Andre Braugher, Michael Gambon, Tom Wilkinson, Jane Birkin, Paul Reubens, Ryan O’Neal, Ryūichi Sakamoto, and Tina Turner.

Andrea and Matteo Bocelli delivered a heartfelt performance of "Time to Say Goodbye" on stage in Los Angeles to commemorate their lives.
