So, how did this audacious robbery unfold? The kidnappers drove up to the Brocket Hall Club golf course near Welwyn Garden City, the native residence of British aristocrat and celebrity Lord Charles Brocket.
This club is owned by a Chinese corporation, acquired by billionaire Yu Songbo, who declared bankruptcy twice after 2020.
The victim, a 30-year-old Chinese businessman, was pepper-sprayed, handcuffed, and thrown into the back of a car. The startled golf course staff witnessed this shocking incident.
The victim did suffer a severe beating from the attackers, but fortunately, he was not critically injured. The police rescued him the following day and subsequently arrested the gang members involved.
According to officers, the kidnapping appears to be part of a blackmail scheme against the golf course owners. The gang demanded cryptocurrencies worth 10 million pounds in exchange for peace at Brocket Hall.
The Sun, a British newspaper, reports that the kidnapping occurred last month, but details are only coming to light now due to the confidentiality of the investigation.
Prestigious Club's Members Horrified
To become a member of the Brooket Hall club, a 6200-pound admission fee, and a 4000-pound annual membership fee are required. However, in the aftermath of this incident, the members of this prestigious club are questioning the safety of their membership.
"It's horrifying. Nothing like this should ever happen, especially not in a place where we're supposed to feel safe," says a member of the revered club to The Sun.
The instigator of the robbery has since been arrested on charges of assault and blackmail.
