The local government reported on the matter. A post that appeared on Facebook quickly circulated around the Czech Republic and, as you can see, it also sparked interest abroad.

"During yesterday's parade, there was a wonderful atmosphere full of relaxation, and children's enthusiasm, and we believe that adults also had a great time, seeing the enthusiasm in the eyes of their children and grandchildren. Today the view is worse. We probably won't find the vandal who spoiled the mood for the children, but we believe that he is reading this post" - we read on the municipality's Facebook page.

It quickly turned out that the vandal was the parish priest of the local parish - Father Jaromír Smejkal. He admitted to his act in a letter addressed to the mayor and the villagers.

The parish priest explains himself

"Leaving the rectory on Sunday evening, I saw symbols of the satanic holiday of 'Halloween', which was born as a counterbalance to All Saints' and All Souls' Day. I acted in accordance with my faith and duty of being the guardian of the souls of children and removed these symbols," he wrote, and added that "I did not mean to hurt anyone, especially children."

"But remember that it is my duty as an authority and priest to protect children and families from hidden spiritual evil," he explained.

Vicar General Pavel Kafka learned about the incident and also issued an apology letter. He said that he had discussed with the pastor the inappropriateness of his behavior. He also admitted that the diocese does not support the actions of the cleric.
