Russia demands Ukraine concessions for peace talks with U.S.
According to two sources cited by Reuters, Russia has presented the U.S. with a list of demands related to a potential agreement to end the war with Ukraine and reset relations with Washington. "I cannot confirm or comment on this," said Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov when asked about the matter.
Many reports from Russian media or government representatives are elements of propaganda. Such reports are part of the information warfare conducted by the Russian Federation.
"They [Russians - ed.] described the Kremlin's terms as broad and similar to demands it previously has presented to Ukraine, the U.S. and NATO," reported Reuters.
On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin's spokesperson was asked about the matter. "I cannot confirm or comment on this," stated Dmitry Peskov, as quoted by the Kremlin's news agency, TASS. "I can only reiterate that [there is] a huge amount of information that does not correspond to reality, which only in small parts corresponds to reality," he added.
Occupied territories of Ukraine as part of Russia
The conditions mentioned by Reuters include, among others, Ukraine not becoming a member of NATO, an agreement not to deploy foreign troops in Ukraine, and international recognition of Vladimir Putin's claim that Crimea and four seized provinces belong to Russia.
Peskov also addressed the issue of occupied territories of Ukraine on Thursday. "Crimea, Sevastopol, Kherson, Zaporizhia, Donetsk, and Luhansk are regions of the Russian Federation. They are enshrined in the Constitution of the Russian Federation. This is a given," he pointed out.
Most likely, negotiations between Russia and the U.S. will take place on Thursday regarding the war in Ukraine. The American delegation has already arrived in Moscow.
