Kyiv under siege: Russian missile attack claims life and causes fires
Early Wednesday morning, Kyiv was attacked by ballistic missiles from Russia, leading to fires in four districts of the city. At least one person was killed.
Kyiv's mayor, Vitali Klitschko, reported fires in the Holosiivskyi, Podilska, and Sviatoshynskyi districts. In Obolon, the fire spread to the industrial zone. "Preliminary reports indicate damage to nearby buildings. All emergency services are heading to the scene," Klitschko stated on social media.
"One person was also injured in the Podilskyi district. Medics have hospitalized him. Earlier, a body was discovered in the same district," added Klitschko.
Russia's stance on peace negotiations
The attack lasted for half an hour, and warning sirens began sounding at 4:26 local time. Andriy Yermak, head of President Volodymyr Zelensky's office, commented that these attacks reflect Russia's attitude towards plans to end the war.
"Russia launched a missile strike on Kyiv and the Kyiv region, and air defense was working against the ballistic threat. This is how Putin wants to end the war," Yermak wrote.
"Unfortunately, each public statement from the West that mentions progress towards peace is accompanied by missile attacks from the Russian Federation," stated Andriy Kovalenko, head of the government’s Center for Countering Disinformation.
