German leaders reject Trump's plan to relocate Palestinians
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier expressed skepticism about Donald Trump's plans to relocate Palestinians from the Gaza Strip. "I only hear concerns here in the region," Steinmeier said during a meeting with King Abdullah II of Jordan in Amman.
Steinmeier highlighted his apprehensions about US President Donald Trump's proposals involving Palestinians and the U.S. intervention in the Gaza Strip. He emphasized that, in the Middle East, he is hearing only concerns surrounding this idea.
According to the dpa agency, Steinmeier remarked that the Middle East needs a lasting solution, not temporary measures. He believes that relocating Palestinians could exacerbate tensions and conflicts.
Threat to Palestinians
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock also criticized Trump's plans, emphasizing that the Gaza Strip belongs to the Palestinians. She stated that expelling them would violate international law.
"It would also lead to new suffering and new hatred," Baerbock said in a statement. She added, "There must be no solution over the heads of the Palestinians."
Trump's controversial proposal
Donald Trump proposed that Palestinians be permanently relocated, suggesting that Jordan, Egypt, and other countries could take them in. He argued that the Gaza Strip is war-torn and needs a comprehensive overhaul.
During his visit to Saudi Arabia, Steinmeier stressed that a new approach is needed to stabilize the entire region, not just Israel and the Palestinians. In his opinion, current actions are not yielding the expected results.
