Carlson's wild claim on Putin's assassination attempt sparks Kremlin rebuttal
Former Fox News presenter Tucker Carlson, in the latest episode of his podcast "The Tucker Carlson Show," accused the Biden administration of attempting an assassination on Russian President Vladimir Putin. It's "madness," he stated. These remarks were addressed by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
Many pieces of information provided by Russian media or government representatives are elements of propaganda. Such reports are part of the information war conducted by the Russian Federation.
"The Biden administration did, they tried to kill Putin. Which is insane. That’s demented, that you would even think of something like that. So why were they? Because chaos is a screen that protects them," Carlson asserted.
"If like [Putin was assassinated]... okay, so who takes over Russia? And what happens to the nuclear arsenal in a country that's, like, so complex outsiders can't even understand," he added. The American commentator did not provide any evidence to support his claim about the Biden administration.
Kremlin's Reaction
The former journalist's sensational claims immediately prompted a reaction from Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, who stated that "The Russian special services are constantly taking all the necessary measures to ensure public safety, and, of course, the safety of those who are under state protection."
Today, he commented again on Carlson's statement, but in a completely different tone. "He didn't provide any evidence. It's not clear what he meant. It is better not to take someone's word for it when there is no evidence," said the Kremlin spokesman, as quoted by Russian media.
Carlson often repeated the Kremlin's narrative, criticizing American military aid to Kyiv and calling Ukraine a "non-democracy." In February of last year, Carlson traveled to Moscow for a widely criticized interview with Putin, and in December, he visited Russia again to interview Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
